Memorial complex in honor of the Hero of the Soviet Union Cholponbay Tuleberdiev

No one is forgotten...
An original structure is the memorial complex in honor of the Hero of the Soviet Union Cholponbay Tuleberdiev in his homeland in the village of Chimbkent, Talas region, created by sculptor Z. Khabibulin and architect D. Yrysqulov (1982), awarded the Silver Medal named after A. M. Grekov. The complex unites into a single whole the monument to Ch. Tuleberdiev, the building of the memorial museum dedicated to the memory of fallen fellow villagers, and steles with figurative reliefs and the names of the fallen soldiers.

The ensemble is located in an open space on the outskirts of the village. Its closed monolithic architectural form with rounded outlines resonates with the monumental chain of the nearby mountains, fitting well into the foothill steppe landscape. Inside the architectural structure, at the entrance to the museum building, there is a statue of Ch. Tuleberdiev, illuminated by side and overhead light. The hero is depicted in the last moment of life — a simultaneous fall and flight. This complex compositional solution of the figure metaphorically reveals the idea of overcoming the threshold of physical death. By sacrificing himself, the young man immortalized his name, which has become a symbol of high morality, courage, and love for people. The outstretched figure in its fall harmoniously integrates into the architectural space of the ensemble, serving as its ideological and compositional center. It carries great figurative content, touching with a combination of the depth of dramatic beginnings and the piercing beauty of the plastic solution.

In the western part of the structure, on two opposite walls, separated by a memorial plaque with the names of the fallen, there are reliefs. They utilize the motif of a solemn collective procession. The procession begins with a scene of soldiers being sent off to the front. This scene is sculpted in high relief. Then soldiers are depicted at the front, with the sculpting taking on a more graphic and flattened character, which enhances the dramatic impression. The soldiers move into the depth of space and almost disappear. This development of the composition evokes complex feelings associated with the idea of self-sacrifice for the independence of the Motherland.
