Complex of sculptural works at the Kirov Reservoir in the Talas region.
A significant milestone in the development of monumental art in the republic was the large complex of sculptural works at the Kirov Reservoir in the Talas region (1975—1983), created by a group of artists (V. Shestopal, T. Gertsen, V. Dimov). A thematic bas-relief has been created on the retaining wall of the dam — an elaborate multi-figure narrative about the life of the workers of Kyrgyzstan. The composition of the concrete image, set against the backdrop of mountains and facing the mountain highway, is elongated horizontally and consists of several groups unified by the storyline. It begins with the stately figure of a woman, embodying modern labor in Kyrgyzstan. Then, depicted in groups engaged in labor with professional attributes are Kyrgyz shepherds, builders, miners, tunnelers, and farmers. The bas-relief is characterized by an accurate realistic drawing of the figures, many of which are captured in complex movements and angles, as well as the quality of the plastic treatment of form. Set within the majestic mountain landscape, it actively engages only from close viewpoints. On the opposite side of the dam, a portrait head of V. I. Lenin cast in concrete is installed. It is also designed as a giant bas-relief, towering over the entire structure and visible from long distances.
Decorative Plastic in Frunze
In recent years, decorative plastic, diverse in theme, material, and plastic solutions, has increasingly entered the interiors of public buildings and the urban environment. For example, in the hall of the library of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR, the bas-relief "Knowledge" (1978, copper, embossing), created by V. Dimov, symbolizes the complexity of human thought. A service station in the eastern industrial zone of the capital is adorned with a metal relief "Speed," depicting swiftly flying, horizontally elongated horses. The only example of a decorative fountain constructed in Frunze in the last twenty years is the fountain with mosaic-clad images of underwater inhabitants, created by V. Krugman along Soviet Street, in the spirit of the picturesque-plastic decorative forms applied by Z. Tsereteli in the artistic design of the resort of Pitsunda.
