FROM THE REPORT OF THE EXTRACURRICULAR SUBDEPARTMENT OF THE PISHPEK DISTRICT DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION ON THE ACTIVITIES OF CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE CITY OF PISHPEK
City of Pishpek, September 1, 1922.

The extracurricular subdepartment of the Pishpek district was organized in March 1920.

Currently, the situation is as follows:

In the library section - there exists a Russian-Muslim library in the city of Pishpek, called the "Central" library, which has a reading room. It is planned to open a bookbinding workshop if the necessary materials can be found. The library has 1,795 volumes of Russian literature and 500 volumes of Muslim literature. For the reading room, newspapers "Pravda," "Izvestia," and the Muslim-language "Iskra" are received....

In the school section - there was one school for adults functioning in Pishpek, but it did not operate for long, as all school buildings were occupied by troops, and the school had to engage in fieldwork.

By autumn, it is planned to open 40 Russian and 17 Muslim schools for adults, and teachers as well as local intellectuals will be invited to this work....

In the theater section - there is one suitable venue for a theater in the city (a nationalized cinema building). This building has been temporarily allocated by a decree of the Revolutionary Committee to the local Agitprosvet, which, apparently having inexhaustible financial resources (receiving large advances and not accounting for deficits), has managed to somewhat stabilize: it has gathered theatrical decorations, settings, etc., where and how it could. In the former theatrical circles of railway workers, amateurs, and the Chuy Society, it has managed, thanks to good pay and a full Red Army ration, to attract all the dramatic forces of Pishpek....

There is one circus in Pishpek (formerly Rahmanov's), which is currently operating on a cooperative basis. It has not yet been registered but is under the supervision of the extracurricular subdepartment. The circus building is located in a private shed.

The building is summer-only, completely unsuitable for winter, and currently even lacks a roof. Tashkent is requesting information about the state of the theater and circus, and their needs. Information is being provided.
