FROM THE REPORT OF THE POLITICAL ENLIGHTENMENT OF THE KYRGYZ AUTONOMOUS REGION ON THE WORK OF LIBRARY-TYPE INSTITUTIONS IN THE CITY OF PISHPEK

City of Pishpek, March 11, 1926

... Until now, not a single reading hut has been opened in the city; only now is a demonstration reading hut being opened in Dunganovka, which is already equipped with everything necessary. There is a sufficient amount of literature in Russian and Kyrgyz languages for this reading hut, as well as posters and other equipment.

There are no red yurts in the city. There are 2 red tea houses, which are currently conducting loud reading sessions among visitors; they have several issues of various newspapers and magazines, small libraries, and posters; their work is planned.

For the arriving peasants and farmers in the city, there is a House of the Farmer.

The latter has been renovated and is conducting planned work. The House of the Farmer has small libraries in Russian and Kyrgyz languages, a Lenin corner, posters, and portraits of leaders. Reference work is being carried out, providing information to peasants and farmers on issues of interest to them, loud reading sessions, etc.

The peasants and farmers are satisfied with the work of the House of the Farmer.

In addition, there is a public library in the city, which has 18,000 copies of books; 30% of all books are new literature from Soviet publications. There is a small library in the Kyrgyz language.

The library has a reading room, which is very small in size: accommodating only 8-10 people. There are newspapers and magazines available.

Moreover, the library has a binding department that binds all newly arriving literature immediately. The binding capacity is about 1,000 books per month. The daily attendance of the library and reading room is from 40 to 60 people.

Cultural construction in Kyrgyzstan (1918-1939): T.l. S.285-286.
