FROM THE SPEECH OF THE DIRECTOR OF KYRGYZ SECONDARY SCHOOL NO. 5 IN FRUNZE, COMRADE UMURZAKOV, AT THE V EXTRAORDINARY CONGRESS OF SOVIETS
Frunze, March 22, 1937
... Now I would like to particularly focus on one school - this is Kyrgyz Secondary School No. 5 named after A.S. Pushkin, of which I am the director. It is the first Kyrgyz secondary school in the history of the Kyrgyz people, with 493 children studying there, of which 236 are girls. We have 23 teachers, mostly all Kyrgyz, and among them, three teachers have higher education. As you can see, life has completely changed. Life has become better and more joyful. It is impossible to compare it at all with the old life. For example, I am the son of a poor peasant. My father led a miserable existence, lacking one thing or another, never experiencing joy in life, and he died at the age of 37. I was orphaned at the age of 7 and partially experienced and witnessed the grief of the old life; I was already doomed to a miserable existence. But soon the sun of the October Socialist Revolution rose, and I found myself a thousand times happier than my father, raised in an orphanage, then graduated from a pedagogical college, completed a pedagogical institute last year, and now I work as the director of the aforementioned school, am well-off, and raise the sons and daughters of working Kyrgyz - 493 children, future builders of communism. I am immensely proud of this and will justify [the trust placed in me].
Finally, [I] would like to draw your attention to one issue - this is the question of cooperation among the peoples of the USSR. After all, these successes have been achieved as a result of the joint friendship and struggle of all the peoples of our fraternal Union under the leadership of the VKP(b). Therefore, to develop even faster and live even happier in the future, our task is to further strengthen the fraternal friendship and cooperation of all the peoples of our Soviet Union and Kyrgyzstan, to unite even more closely around our glorious VKP(b) and its Central Committee.
Long live the great friendship and cooperation of all peoples!
Long live the Kyrgyz SSR!
