Industry
Kara-Balta is an economically developed city. There are 23 profitable enterprises in the city. The volume of industrial goods produced in the city in 2000 amounted to 9,796.5 million soms, or 73% of the total industrial output of the Chuy region. The largest share of production comes from the non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises, with JSC "KGRK" being the main producer.

JSC "KGRK"
On the year of the 25th anniversary of the city of Kara-Balta, JSC "KGRK" marked its 50th anniversary, delighting the citizens with its successes: the products produced by the plant met world quality standards, and the refined gold produced by the plant in bars with a purity of 99.99 percent received the highest quality mark from the London Bullion Market Association!
Currently, the plant consists of 13 divisions, with the main capital defined at 203,817.5 thousand soms. The processing production of the plant mainly represents the technology of metallurgical processing of concentrates supplied from the deposits of the Republics of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as industrial products and waste from various industries containing molybdenum, supplied from the CIS, with the production of uranium oxide from chemical concentrates of natural uranium and chemical compounds of molybdenum.
The first director of the plant was Nikolai Konstantinovich Makov. In his honor, a memorial plaque was installed in the spring of 2000 at the entrance to house No. 17 on Mira Street, where he lived.
The mining and processing plant was also headed by Vasily Nikolaevich Mindrul, Anatoly Pavlovich Yezhov, and Zhalgap Iymanbekovich Kazakbaev. Currently, the general director is Narynbek Temirbaevich Kozhomatov.
On the eve of the city's anniversary, JSC "KGRK" received high recognition in the global precious metals market, being awarded the Status of a Good Gold Supplier, which promises to expand its partnerships abroad.
JSC "Imotu Enterprise"
Has been operating since December 24, 1997, after the segmentation of JSC "KGRK". Initially named JSC "Molybdenum". In 1998, after the sale of 70% of the state share package of JSC "Molybdenum" to a raw material supplier for processing under a tolling agreement with the English firm "Mekomin Development LTD", the enterprise was renamed JSC "Imotu - Enterprise". The new foreign partner, being the sole supplier of raw materials and consumer of the finished product - molybdenum trioxide - also provides chemical reagents, and in the spring of 2000 supplied new technological equipment, with which new types of products were mastered and implemented in February 2001.
