The Conspiracy of the Kyrgyz Khans
Hey!
In the mountains, where the sunny Alay —
The blessed land of the Kyrgyz,
On that spring day gathered
Six khans from six clans:
The esteemed, glorious Muzburchak,
From Andijan Sanzybek,
Son of Elaman er-Toshtyuk,
From Sar-Arka the Kazakh Kokche,
And from Kemina the old khan Urby,
And from the eshteks Jamgyrchy.
Arriving at this invited feast,
The khans whispered among themselves:
— Inviting to the koketeev ash,
Manas took all power for himself,
He mocked and humiliated us.
With him was the old man Koshoy,
Bakay with his warrior band.
— We experienced not honor there,
But humiliation and oppression.
— And at the memorial, no one
Was allowed to speak a word.
And besides his own Alma,
He recognized no one.
— And who is this Almanbet?
A traitor to the homeland, a fugitive.
He managed to crawl to Manas
Through treachery and flattery.
— You, esteemed khan Urby,
Manas struck you in the face —
He humiliated and insulted you in front of everyone!
— He took the upper hand over all!
What should we do? It happened that —
He clenched all power in his fist.
— If we cannot restrain
His unrestrained power,
He will turn us all into slaves.
To avoid such disgrace,
We must gather all our strength,
And give him a worthy rebuff!
But then khan Urby said to them:
— I cannot go with you.
Balding, I have lived to gray hair.
My son is young. My clan is not the only one.
And I do not have the strength
To compete with him for power.
— And where is your dignity?! —
Cried khan Kokche in anger. —
Are you khan Urby or nothing?
When the arrogant Manas
Struck you in the face,
All the khans were ready
To give a rebuff to the wicked scoundrel.
And if it weren't for the old man Koshoy,
Who calmed us down,
Khan Manas would have lost his throne!
Manas would have ended in disaster!
I see you are trembling, Urby,
You have no khanly honor!
Why did you come to the council?
To hand everything over to Manas? —
Kokche demanded an answer.
And khan Urby promised
To stand with everyone to the end
For honor, dignity, and power.
And the khans decided here:
To invite Manas to Alay,
To divide guests among the camps,
And there to secretly surround them,
To drive away the saddled horses.
To gather everyone, and then
To inform Manas
That he must leave the throne himself.
And if he does not give up the throne,
To overthrow his power together!
To kill Choro with his band,
To imprison Manas in a dungeon,
To take his wife as a hostage,
To inform all the people
That it will not be Manas who rules —
But the power created by Ashar.
Six khans from six clans,
Having slaughtered a mare here,
Lowered their palms in blood,
Raised them up, fell to the ground,
Swore to the earth and sky:
— To the one who betrays our agreement
Let this disgrace be eternal!
And let the black grave entrance
Take him into its womb!
And let the shaggy earth
And the blue expanse of the sky punish him!
And each khan sent
An envoy from his clan
To deliver a letter to Manas
About the fact that the khans are waiting
For him and his band in Alay —
In the blessed land of the Kyrgyz.
