Cradle and Coffin
Once, a cradle and a coffin argued about who was more important for a person.
“I hold respected and famous people. Therefore, when relatives and close ones of the deceased come to me, they cry and mourn their heavy and irreplaceable loss,” said the coffin. “My mission is the most important.”
“But the child lying in me hears the lullaby sung by his mother. In the sounds and words of this song is all the best that the human soul is capable of - love, goodness, and beauty. The lullaby sings of the Motherland and home. For a person, there is nothing more important than these things,” replied the cradle. “My mission is higher than yours.”
- “But I earn more. The deceased lies in me for only one or two days. Then I calmly wait for my time until the next funeral.”
- “In me, they lie from birth to a year. Infants, nestled in me, have no money yet. But with me remains the memory of their warmth. For me, it is more important than profit.”
- “The deceased are carefully washed before being placed in me. Only the clean lie in the coffin.”
- “But any person who has lived has sinned. The purity of an infant lies in the fact that he has not yet been corrupted by the evil of this world. He knows nothing of lies, greed, and selfishness.”
A person comes into the world purer than when he leaves it.
Lioness and Rabbit
One day, a rabbit and a lioness started talking.
- “Tell me, esteemed lioness, why do you give birth so rarely and to so few?” asked the rabbit.
- “I may be small, but I bring forth no less than 5-6 bunnies twice a year. And you, big and strong, give birth less often. Why is that?”
“You are right, I give birth rarely. But I give birth to a brave lion,” replied the lioness.
Tree and Log
Once, a log and a tree were talking. “By burning, I give warmth to others,” said the log. “And you are raw and not suitable for heating a home or cooking food.”
- “Yes, but when I am cut down, I die standing. That is better than being sawed into firewood and disappearing in the oven day by day, burning piece by piece.”
