Kozakhmetov Dzhaqul

(1921-1975)
Painter. Born in 1921 in the village of Orto-Alysh, Kyzyl-Asker District, Frunze Region. In 1946-1947, he studied at the painting and pedagogy department of the Samarkand Art School. In 1953, he graduated from the Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture named after I.E. Repin in Leningrad. Since 1958, he has been a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He taught at the Frunze Art School.

Paying great attention to sketch work, Dz. Kozakhmetov set as the main goal of his creativity the creation of plot-thematic compositions. He created a number of paintings on historical and contemporary themes from the life of the Kyrgyz people. Kozakhmetov left a number of sketches for unrealized paintings, hundreds of drawings, and plein air studies. He worked in the traditions of the Russian academic school of painting.

Awarded medals for "Courage," "For the Capture of Koenigsberg," and "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."

Participant in republican and all-Union exhibitions. The best works of Kozakhmetov are housed in the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after G. Aitiev.
