Ostashyev Arkadiy Sergeyevich

(1929 - 2002)
Graphic artist. Honored Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR. Born on January 14, 1929, in the village of Nikolskoye, Volokolamsk District, Moscow Region.

In 1949, he graduated from the Saratov Art School, and in 1955 - from the graphic faculty of the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin. He studied under renowned artists A.F. Pakhomov, P.P. Belousov, and L.F. Ovsyannikov.

Since 1956, he has been a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.

He worked as an art editor at the "Mektep" publishing house (1955-1964), chief artist at the State Polygraphic Publishing House (1964-1968, 1972-1979), influencing the improvement of the artistic and printing quality of books published in the republic.

He worked in easel and book graphics, using techniques such as linocut, watercolor, pastel, and drawing. In his work, the themes of Kyrgyzstan and Russia developed in parallel. The Kyrgyz theme began for the artist with an understanding of the history and spiritual culture of the people. With documentary precision, the artist depicted the characteristic lifestyle, architecture, and natural environment of the capital of Kyrgyzstan. As a book artist, Ostashyev worked in the fields of illustration, layout design, and artistic decoration of book products, demonstrating high professionalism.

He participated in republican exhibitions. His best works are held in the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after G. Aitiev and in literary museums in Moscow and Leningrad.

He was awarded the medals "For Labor Distinction," "For Labor Valor. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of V.I. Lenin's birth," and the Silver and Bronze Medals of the VDNH of the USSR. He received an honorary diploma from the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR and honorary certificates from the Union of Artists of the USSR.
