
Turdakun Usubaliev - Prominent State and Political Figure
Usubaliev was born on November 6, 1919, in the village of Kochkor in the Naryn region of northern Kyrgyzstan to a peasant family. In 1941, he graduated from a teacher training institute, then from the higher party school at the Central Committee of the VKP(b) in 1945, and later studied at the Moscow Lenin Pedagogical Institute by correspondence.
He worked as a teacher in a school, editor of the republican newspaper "Soviet Kyrgyzstan," and began his party career in 1941. On May 9, 1961, he became the head of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan.
He was the organizer of the construction of the Naryn hydro cascade, which still supplies electricity to the entire territory of the country and is part of the Central Asian energy ring. During his leadership, 150 large industrial facilities were built in Kyrgyzstan.
His name is associated with the construction of the international-class "Manas" airport, the government building complex, the Academy of Sciences, the national library, and the philharmonic hall; under his leadership, 511,000 new apartments were built in the republic.
In 1985, Usubaliev retired from his highest state position, and in 1986 he left the ranks of the communists, surrendering his party card, but did not withdraw from politics. After the republic gained sovereignty in 1991, he became a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh (parliament). In June 2008, he co-founded the political movement "United Kyrgyzstan."
Usubaliev was awarded three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Russian Order of Friendship, as well as the title of Hero of Kyrgyzstan and other awards.
