Jewish. Born in Frunze. Graduated from KGU (1969), and completed postgraduate studies there (1976).
Worked as a lecturer at the Przhevalsky Pedagogical Institute, associate professor, and since 1978 - professor at KGPU.
Specialist in the history of literature, journalism, and literary criticism of the Soviet era.
Published more than 200 scientific works.
