Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kirghiz SSR (1987)
Russian. Graduated from the Moscow Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold (1954), postgraduate studies there as well.
Worked as a research fellow, scientific secretary of the geostation, deputy head, head of the Ministry of Geology of the USSR, first vice-rector of the Academy of National Economy under the Council of Ministers of the USSR, president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kirghiz SSR, vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Earth Sciences), chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology (Moscow), since 1991 - vice-president of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Specialist in the field of general and regional geology. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1987).
Awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Badge of Honor, and medals of the USSR. Honored Scientist of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Published more than 300 scientific works, including 20 monographs.
Under his supervision, 5 doctoral and 25 candidate dissertations have been defended.
