Born in Almaty, Kazakh SSR. Graduated from KGU (1952), and completed his postgraduate studies there (1957).
Worked as a senior technician at the Talas Regional Department of Education, lecturer, head of the department, professor at KGU, head of the Department of Literary Theory, and vice-rector for research at the Frunze Pedagogical Institute of the Russian Language and Literature (PIRYAL).
Specialist in Russian and Kyrgyz literature, literary theory.
Awarded orders and medals for the Great Patriotic War and the USSR.
Honored Teacher of the Kyrgyz SSR (1979).
Published over 400 scientific works, including several monographs and textbooks.
