Graduated from KGU (1975), postgraduate studies at the Institute of World Literature of the USSR (1981).
Worked as a teacher, senior teacher at KJPI, deputy chief editor of the newspaper "Kyrgyzstan Madeniyati", director of the Institute of Language and Literature of the Kyrgyz SSR, Minister of Press and Information of the Kyrgyz Republic, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, head of the Osh Regional State Administration, chairman of the Committee of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic, since 2000 - Speaker of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Specialist in Kyrgyz literature, art, and political science.
Awarded the "Datsk" medal.
Laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Kyrgyzstan in the field of science and technology.
Published more than 150 scientific works, including 8 books.
Under his supervision, 2 candidate dissertations have been defended.
