Critic, literary scholar S. Karymshakov was born on October 20, 1941, in the village of Kyzart, Jumgal District, Naryn Region, in a peasant family. In 1957, he graduated from high school in his native village, and in 1962, he graduated from the philological faculty of KGU.
From 1964 to 1967, he studied in graduate school at the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR.
He began his career in 1962 as an editor of the music editorial office of the State Committee for Television and Radio of the Kyrgyz SSR.
Since 1967, he served as head of the department at the editorial office of the newspaper "Kyrgyzstan Madeniyati," from 1970 as a junior research fellow at the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR, and from 1975 as the chief editor of the satirical film magazine "Keregech," head of the editorial office of the publishing house "Kyrgyzstan," and chief editor of the repertoire and editorial board of the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR.
Since 1986, he has been a senior literary staff member of the magazine "Ekran."
He has been publishing since 1959. His first book was a collection of literary-critical articles "Turmush saptary" ("Lines of Life"), published in
1968. He translated stories by L. Kassil, plays by A. P. Chekhov, and the novel by S. Zweig "The Starry Hours of Humanity" (in co-authorship) among others.
He created the play "Red Sunset" (1985).
A member of the CPSU since 1973, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1973.
