Prose Writer Tolegen KasymbekovProse writer T. Kasymbekov was born on January 15, 1931, in the village of Ak-Dzhol, Jangi-Jol District, Osh Region, in a peasant family. In 1949, he graduated from the Kara-Dzhigach Secondary School, and in 1957, he graduated from the philological faculty of KGU.
He began his career as a primary school teacher in his native village.
From 1951, he worked as the responsible secretary of the Kichi-Akdzhol village council. Since 1957, he has been working as an editor in the children's and youth literature editorial office of Kyrgyzuchpedgiz, from 1960 as the head of the department, responsible secretary, and from 1966 as the chief editor of the magazine "Ala-Too." Then, from 1973, he became an editor at the State Publishing House of the Kyrgyz SSR, and from 1974 to 1981, he served as a literary consultant on prose in the board of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan. In 1987, he was elected head of the republican branch of VAAAP.
The writer considers his debut to be the novella "Adam bolgum kelet" ("I Want to Be a Human"), published in 1960, although he had already authored two books by that time. A significant work of his is the novel "Slamanyk kilych" ("The Broken Sword"), first published in 1966 and has undergone several editions in his native language, Russian, and almost all languages of the fraternal republics. In 1980, this book was published by Progress in English. The novel is a large historical canvas narrating the past of the Kyrgyz people.
The events in another historical novel "Kel-kel" ("Revival"), published in 1986, cover the period from the second half of the last century up to the establishment of Soviet power in Kyrgyz land. This novel has been translated into Russian and published in
1987 under the title "Za tuchoy beleet gora" ("Behind the Cloud, the Mountain Shines").

Member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1965, member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1959.
Awarded the medal "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," and a Certificate of Honor from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR.
