Poet Turar KodzhomberdievPoet T. Kodzhomberdiev was born on October 15, 1941—January 30, 1989, in the village of Sary-Bulak, Kalinin District, Kyrgyz SSR, in the family of a collective farm horse herder. In 1959, he graduated from Kyrgyz Secondary School No. 5 named after A. S. Pushkin in Frunze, and in 1966, he graduated from the philological faculty of KGU.
He began his labor biography as a literary staff member in the editorial office of the newspaper "Kyrgyzstan Pioneri," and from 1969, he worked as an editor at the publishing house "Kyrgyzstan." From 1976, he worked for a while in the apparatus of the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR.
He has been published since 1959. His first poetry collection "Kelchuktegu ai" ("Moon in a Puddle") was published in 1961. The poet is a remarkable lyricist. His best poetic works are characterized by brightness and metaphorical stylistic coloring, bold thoughts, and originality of self-expression. He can be truly considered a poet-songwriter: many of his poems have been set to music by Kyrgyz composers and are widely popular in the republic. The works of T. Kodzhomberdiev have been translated and published in Russian and Kazakh, and individual poems have been published in many languages of the peoples of the USSR and abroad. He is the author of the translation of N. Dumbadze's novella "I See the Sun," published in 1968, and poems by N. Nezval (1971), and co-author of the translation of many collective poetry collections.
In 1969, for the poetry collections "Kyzyl alma" ("Red Apple") and "Tatsky simfoniya" ("Morning Symphony"), T. Kodzhomberdiev was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize of the republic.
He has been a member of the Union of Soviet Writers since 1966.
