Translator, prose writer Oldjobai Orozbaev

Translator and prose writer O. Orozbaev was born on December 5, 1920, in the village of Temirovka, Issyk-Kul district, Issyk-Kul region, in a peasant-poor family. In 1937, he graduated from the Kyrgyz Pedagogical Technical School in Frunze. From 1937, he worked as a teacher at Kyrgyz Secondary School No. 5 named after A.S. Pushkin in Frunze. In 1939, he was drafted into the ranks of the Soviet Army. He participated in the Great Patriotic War. After being wounded in 1944, he was demobilized from the army. From 1944 to 1947, he served as the responsible secretary of the Issyk-Kul District Executive Committee, and from 1947 to 1953, he was the editor of the Republican Radio Committee. Since 1955, he has been a consultant to the board of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan, and from 1958, he served as the responsible secretary of the magazine "Ala-Too," and from 1965 to 1967, he was an editor at the publishing house "Kyrgyzstan."
The main creative activity of the writer is artistic translation. He translated works by N.V. Gogol, A.I. Herzen, N. Ostrovsky, M. Sholokhov, N. Leskov, A. Gaidar, B. Polevoy, L. Leonov, and others into Kyrgyz; from foreign classics, he translated works by G. Byron and R. Rolland. He translated the novel by T. Sydykbekov "Among the Mountains" into Russian. He is the author of original works, including the novella "Kyl kepurv" ("The Devil's Bridge"), published in 1976 and 1985 in his native language, and in 1979 under the title "The Bridge, Like a Hair" in Russian, and the novella "Diykan suu" ("Eternal Water"), published in 1988.
The book "The Bridge, Like a Hair" was awarded the silver medal of the USSR Writers' Union named after A. Fadeev in 1980.
Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR (1980).
Honorary Citizen of the village of Vempo, Bohachko, Poltava region, Ukrainian SSR.
Member of the CPSU since 1950, member of the USSR Writers' Union since 1955.
Awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War 1st class, medals "For Courage," "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945," "For Valorous Labor in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945," "20 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945," "50 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR," "Veteran of Labor," and Honorary Certificates from the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR.
