
Critic and literary scholar K. Rakhmatullin was born in 1903 in the city of Tokmak, now in the Chuy region of the Kyrgyz SSR, in the family of a small trader. From 1923 to 1925, he studied at the workers' faculty of the Central Asian State University, and in 1931, he graduated from the economics faculty of this institution.
Having lost his parents at an early age, he worked at a wool washing facility from the age of 12, and later as a watchman at the Tokmak City Library.
From 1920 to 1921, he served in the ranks of the Red Army.
From 1921 to 1923, he worked in the party organs of Tokmak and Naryn, and from 1925 to 1927, he was an employee of the Central Asian Bureau of the Central Committee of the VKP(b).
From 1931 to 1935, he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Kyzyl Kyrgyzstan," and from 1935, he served as the director of Kirgizgizdat, a lecturer, and head of the department at the Kyrgyz State Pedagogical Institute. From 1941 until the end of his life, he was a senior research associate at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
K. Rakhmatullin's literary and critical activity began in 1927. He made a significant contribution to the formation and development of Kyrgyz Soviet literary studies and literary criticism. He is the author of several research works dedicated to the epic "Manas" and the creativity of the manaschi, as well as literary and journalistic works that address issues of the development of Kyrgyz Soviet literature and the creative paths of Kyrgyz writers.
In 1942, the book "Manaschilar" ("Manaschi") was published, containing biographical materials about the storytellers-manashchi, and in 1943 (co-authored) — "Essays on Kyrgyz Soviet Literature." Together with T. Sydykbekov, he wrote the play "Manas and Almambet."
A member of the CPSU since 1919, he became a member of the Union of Soviet Writers in 1943.
He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
He died on May 12, 1946.
