Poet, playwright J. Sadykov

Poet and playwright J. Sadykov was born on October 23, 1932, in the village of Kichi-Kemin, Kemin District, Kyrgyz SSR, in a peasant family.
In 1952, he graduated from high school in his native village, and in 1958— from the philological faculty of KGU.
He began his labor biography as a collective farmer in 1948, and since 1952 he has been working as a miner at the Ak-Tyuz mining and processing plant.
Since 1957, while being a student, he worked at Glavlit under the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR, from January 1959— as head of the department at the editorial office of "Kyrgyzstan Pioneri," from October 1959 to 1963— as a literary consultant for the Naryn region, and from 1984 to 1985— as a literary consultant for the Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz SSR.
Since 1964, he has been the head of the department and responsible secretary of the magazine "Ala-Too," since 1967— the chief editor of the magazine "Zhas Leninchi," and from 1980 to 1983 and from 1986 to 1988— the chief editor of the united repertoire and editorial board of the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR.
In July 1988, he was appointed the chief editor of the newspaper "Kyrgyzstan Madeniyaty."
J. Sadykov entered literature in the early 1950s as a poet. His first poetry collection "Ubada" ("Promise") was published in 1958.
He is the author of twenty poetry collections, including two published in Russian. The writer is one of the leading playwrights of the republic. His epic dramas "Semetey — Son of Manas" (1982), "Seitek" (1987), and "Brave Toshtyk" (1987) made a significant contribution to Kyrgyz dramaturgy. He has created plays such as "Druzhka" (1972), "Oblomki kremniya" (1974), "Zhavoronok" (1970), "Dzhukeey-Pudovkinn" (1964), and others. In 1976, a collection of plays "P'esalar" was published, and in 1982— a collection of epic dramas "Manastyn uulu — Semetey" ("Semetey — Son of Manas").
J. Sadykov is also engaged in translation work. He translated Tajik folk tales and poems by M. Aliyev. He is a participant in many collective translated poetry collections. Works by J. Sadykov have been published in Russian and Kazakh.
In 1986, his epic drama "Semetey—Son of Manas" was awarded the State Prize of the Kyrgyz SSR named after Toktogul Satylganov.
Honored Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR (1988).
He was awarded the medal "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," a Certificate of Honor, and a Certificate from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR.
