Prose writer Kochkon Sakhtanov

Prose writer K. Sakhtanov was born on October 10, 1942, in the village of Korul, Aksy District, Osh Region, in a family of civil servants.
In 1959, he graduated from high school in the village of Gulche, and in 1967 he completed the journalism department of the philological faculty at KGU.
He began his labor biography in 1959 as a locomotive driver at the Kok-Yangak mine. Since 1967, he has worked as a junior research associate at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Kirghiz SSR, and from 1977 as an editor at the State Television and Radio Committee of the Kirghiz SSR, and from 1980 as the head of a department at the editorial office of the magazine "Ala-Too." Since 1983, he has been the editor of the scriptwriting board at the "Kyrgyzfilm" studio.
He has been engaged in literary creativity since 1964. His first book was the novella "Ucheenun zhuregu" ("Hearts of Three"), published in 1968. He is the author of two novels and several collections of novellas and short stories. He regularly publishes stories, essays, and journalistic articles on current issues in the press.
He has been a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1979.
