Poet A. Toktomushev was born on July 15, 1912, in the village of Tort-Kul, Kemin District, Kyrgyz SSR, in the family of a laborer. Having lost his parents early, he was raised in the Tokmak orphanage from 1922, and from 1926 he continued his education at a school in the city of Pishpek. From 1928 to 1931, he studied at the Central Asian Polytechnic Institute of Water Management in Tashkent, and in 1952 he graduated from a pedagogical college in Frunze by correspondence.From 1932 until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he worked as a literary employee, responsible secretary, and head of department in the editorial offices of the newspapers "Kyzyl Kyrgyzstan," "Leninchil Zhas," and "Kolhoz Turmush." From 1953 to 1957, he was head of department in the editorial offices of the magazines "Ala-Too" and "Chalkan."
His creative biography began in 1930. His first poetry collection "Balbandar" ("Wrestlers") was published in 1936. The poem "Kakshaaldan kat" ("Letter from Kakshaal") published in 1937 brought him into the ranks of leading Kyrgyz poets. In 1958, it was published in Russian.
During the Great Patriotic War, he created a number of works celebrating the heroism of Soviet people at the front and in the rear. These works were included in the poetry collections "Kun" ("Sun") and "Menyan elkvm" ("My Country"), published in the post-war years.
The most significant and vivid manifestation of A. Toktomushev's poetic talent was his novel in verse "Altyn Too" ("Golden Mountain"), the first part of which was published in 1965, and the second in 1968. The novel encompasses a significant historical period of pre-revolutionary life of the Kyrgyz people and the years of socialist construction. In 1974, this work was awarded the State Prize of the Kyrgyz SSR named after Toktogul Satylganov.
The poet wrote a considerable amount for children. Most of A. Toktomushev's works have been translated and published in Russian. A significant part of his work involves translation. He translated works of Lebanese poets, fairy tales by V. Dal, and poems by Guillen into Kyrgyz. He actively participated in the translation of many collective collections.

Lenin," "Veteran of Labor," Honorary Certificates from the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR and Honorary Certificates from the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Kyrgyzstan.
