The Poet Smar Shimeev

Poet Smar Shimeev Poet S. Shimeev was born on November 15, 1921—September 3, 1976, in the village of Almaluu, Kemin District, Kyrgyz SSR, in a family of poor peasants. Having lost his parents early, he was raised by his maternal grandmother. In
1935, he graduated from a rural primary school, in 1938— from a workers' faculty in Tokmak, in 1940— from Kyrgyz Secondary School No. 5 named after A. S. Pushkin in Frunze, and in
1954— from the A. M. Gorky Literary Institute.

He began his labor biography as a literary employee at the editorial office of the newspaper "Leninchil Zhas" in 1938, worked as a reporter for KirTAG starting in 1940, served as the editor-in-chief of literary and dramatic broadcasting at the Kyrgyz Radio Committee from 1941, as an instructor at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan from 1942, and from 1944 to 1946— as the responsible secretary, and from 1954 to 1955— as a literary consultant at the board of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan. From 1955 to
1957, he was the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Ala-Too," from 1959 to 1962— the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Zhas Leninchi," and from 1965 until the end of his life— the head of the Main Department for Arts under the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR.

He began publishing in 1938. His first poetry collection "Parisdin Kaary" ("The Wrath of Paris"), which included works created by the poet during the Great Patriotic War, was published in 1944. He is the author of more than 20 poetry collections, and he also wrote short stories, a novella, and plays "The Tale of Life," "Unwelcome Guests," and translated works by A. S. Pushkin, M. Yu. Lermontov, A. Navoi, N. Hikmet, and others into Kyrgyz.

Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR (1974).

Member of the CPSU since 1941, member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1944.

Awarded medals "For Valorous Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941—1945," "For Labor Distinction," "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," and a Certificate of Honor from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR.
