The Poet Suyunbai Eraliyev

Poet Suyunbay Eraliyev Poet S. Eraliyev was born on October 15, 1921, in the village of Uch-Emchek (now the Talas district of the Talas region) into a peasant family. In 1940, he graduated from high school, and from 1951 to 1954, he was a student at the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and from 1965 to 1967, he attended the Higher Literary School under the Union of Soviet Writers in Moscow.

During the Great Patriotic War, from 1942 to 1944, he fought at the front and was wounded twice. From 1944 to 1951, he worked as the responsible secretary of the Talas regional newspaper "Lenindik Tuu." In 1954, he was appointed the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Kyrgyzstan Pioneri," served as the secretary of the board of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan from 1959 to 1965, and was a literary consultant from 1967 to 1984.

He has been published since 1939. His first poetry collection "Birinchi Janyryk" ("First Sound") was published in 1949. A special place in the poet's work is occupied by poems about the Great Patriotic War, where he received his harsh life lessons. During these years, he was forming as a citizen and an artist. A significant creative success for S. Eraliyev was his poem "Ak-Meer," published in 1959. This lyrical poem, written on a historical theme, deepened and expanded the possibilities of traditional versification. He was the first in Kyrgyz poetry to masterfully use the form of free verse. An example of this is the poem "K Zvezdam" ("To the Stars"), written in 1966. An undeniable creative success in the poet's translation activities is the collections of poems by W. Whitman, R. Tagore, M. Tursun-Zade, and the adaptation into Kyrgyz of "The Book about the Fighter" ("Vasily Terkin") by A. Tvardovsky, which is considered one of the best examples of artistic poetic translation in Kyrgyz literature.

The works of S. Eraliyev have been published in Russian, Ukrainian, Uzbek, Tajik, Karakalpak, and Kazakh languages, and the poem "K Zvezdam" was published in Yugoslavia in 1967.

People's Poet of Kyrgyzstan (1974).
