LETTER FROM MOLDО ALYMKUL TO AMER UL AMIR, SON OF ASAN BIYA, AND PARVANACHI MINBAY, SON OF ASRAR ALI DZHANTAY TO KARABEKOV REGARDING THEIR INTENTION TO ACT AGAINST THE RUSSIANS.

1863

Esteemed Datkha Dzhantay-batyr! I testify to you many bows and the following speech:
Praise be to Allah, the shameful deeds that were according to the will of the Almighty God have ceased, and all the nomadic peoples have unanimously submitted to the Kokand Government, united by ties of kinship, and there is not a single person who has not come with congratulations and has not been rewarded with our kindness. However, you, Most Honorable, have not even sent us a single written note, which greatly surprises us; and in the meantime, you should, out of a sense of kinship, immediately come to us and enjoy together the gifts of happiness bestowed by God. If, due to the distance of your pastures, you cannot come yourself, then at least you should send your son or brother with congratulations.

At present, praise be to Allah, ambassadors from the Chinese Khan and the Bukhara Padishah are coming to us with peaceful offerings, as well as the Karatgins from Sirvan, Shatar, and Sayabza, and all the Bek families of the Khitai and Kipchak tribes. From such expressions of complete loyalty to us, we have gained spiritual pleasure. We have nothing left to do but, in the name of Islam, to raise swords against the accursed Russians and, with the arrival of spring, to set out with all our troops and artillery to reclaim the peoples that have fallen away from us. You must come to us beforehand for a consultation regarding the upcoming movement in that direction and to receive favors. If you cannot arrive here yourself due to the distance, then send your son or brother, move the districts closer to us to their former places, and strive to maintain continuous communication with us. The rest will be conveyed to you verbally by the messenger, and you should trust him.
