- Spring barley occupies an important place in the agricultural production of Kyrgyzstan. The press service of the Ministry of Agriculture shared data on the most common varieties grown in the country.

Mamluk is an early-maturing variety recommended for rainfed lands. The growing season lasts 67–75 days. The grain contains 12% to 14% protein and 53.8% to 56.4% starch. This variety is suitable for cultivation in the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions.

Vakula is a variety that can be grown both on irrigated and rainfed lands. Its growing season lasts 70–86 days, with protein content ranging from 10.7% to 15.9% and starch content from 54.7% to 56.9%. It is recommended for all regions of Kyrgyzstan.

Bestam is a local variety suitable for irrigated lands and areas with high levels of precipitation. The growing season lasts 71–78 days, with a protein content of 15.2% and starch content of 54.2%.

Nutans 89 is another local variety recommended for irrigated lands. Its growing season lasts 72–87 days, with protein content ranging from 12.8% to 15.5% and starch content from 56.8% to 60.1%. It is recommended for the Issyk-Kul, Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions.

Format is a new variety introduced for cultivation in Kyrgyzstan in 2024. The growing season of this variety lasts 70–76 days, with a protein content of 15.1%. It is suitable for all regions of the country.

Explorer is a medium-maturing variety with a growing season of 69 to 80 days. Its protein content ranges from 12.2% to 13.8%.

Leon is a medium-maturing two-row variety of spring barley with a growing season of 74–89 days. The protein content varies from 13.4% to 17.7%. It is recommended for all regions.

Atalyk is a high-yielding local variety of medium maturity with a growing season of 80–95 days and a protein content ranging from 12% to 13%. This variety is also suitable for all regions of the country.

Rostik is a variety recommended for irrigated lands, classified as medium-maturing.

Slava is a local variety that can be planted both in spring and autumn. It is classified as medium-early, with a growing period of 75–90 days.
