Status: VI category, Near Threatened, NT: R. A species with low numbers, poorly studied. In Kyrgyzstan, the subspecies Pterocles alchata caudacutus (S.G. Gmelin, 1774) is found.

Distribution overall and in the country. Southern Europe, Minor Asia, and Central Asia. In Kyrgyzstan, it is only observed during migration in the Naryn region and the floodplain of the At-Bashi River. [92].

Habitat. More than other sandgrouse, this species is associated with sandy areas. It primarily inhabits hilly sandy regions that alternate with clayey and saline areas. It nests in close proximity to water. [86]

Population. There are no exact data, but it is low everywhere.

Life cycle (lifestyle). It is encountered in spring from late March to early April. It nests in colonies, building nests on the slopes of sandy hills or on clayey patches, usually in the shade of plants. The clutch consists of 2-3 eggs. Both parents incubate for 21-23 days. Families with fledged chicks unite and migrate [86].

Limiting factors. Not studied.

Breeding (keeping in captivity). No data available.

Existing conservation measures. No special conservation measures have been developed.

Recommended conservation measures. Promote species protection more widely.

Prefers sandy habitats, breeds next to water. No data on numbers are available. Lays 2-3 eggs, incubates for 21-23 days, both parents are responsible for domestic duties. Limiting factors are not investigated. No data on holding in captivity. It is recommended to increase public awareness about the species protection.
