Coal

Coal deposits in the republic are grouped into 4 basins (Southern Fergana, Uzgen, Northern Fergana, Kavak) and 3 coal-bearing regions (Alaï, Alabuka-Chatyr-Kel, Southern Issyk-Kul). According to experts, coal reserves in Kyrgyzstan exceed 30 billion tons. Coal deposits are mainly concentrated in the Osh, Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, and Naryn regions.

In Kyrgyzstan, coals are classified into two groups based on the degree of metamorphism: hard coals and lignite. Among the hard coals, the high-quality coals are from the Tash-Kumur and Kok-Jangak deposits. The lignite coals used for energy needs from the Kavak basin (Kara-Keche, Ak-Ulak) have high-quality characteristics. The largest reserves of energy coal for open-pit mining are concentrated in the Kavak lignite basin. Among the deposits in this basin, the largest is the Karakechin deposit. The most important for industrial development are the deposits in the Osh and Naryn regions.

The deposits in the Osh region can already meet the demand for 500,000 tons of coal. The potential market for Osh coal is Uzbekistan, where there are large industrial consumers.
