Lake Saz-Kel

Lake Saz-Kel — "swampy lake".

This small but very picturesque lake in Kyrgyzstan reflects the blue sky, neighboring mountain peaks, and trees like a mirror!

Lake Saz-Kel (Sazkel, Sazkol, Saz-Kol) is located in the Itagar Gorge, one of the branches of the larger Chichkan Gorge. The Itagar Gorge itself is approximately 340 kilometers north of Jalal-Abad. It is hidden behind the beautiful rocky mountains of Chichkan and is located nearby.

The lake itself is nestled among wind-carved rocks and tall fir trees, surrounded on all sides by a chain of mountains. The mountain peaks are covered with lush vegetation of barberry, juniper, and wild blackberries. You can take a break and enjoy the surrounding beauty. The cool air is so fresh that you want to breathe deeply.

Here, at an altitude of 2200 meters, among the ridges and peaks, a sense of inner peace comes.

This place is especially beautiful in autumn when the fluffy fir trees blend with orange hues, and the azure sky and yellowing tree tops are reflected in the high-altitude Lake Saz-Kel.

In Kyrgyz, the lake translates to "swampy lake".

The swampy pond with a rocky bottom is perfect for swimming and fishing. You can pitch a tent on the shore, set up a barbecue – roast fish or grill meat. The lake is surrounded by trees, many of which are old and dry, making them perfect for firewood.

From July to September, you can enjoy wild raspberries and blackberries – the shores of the lake are dotted with berries. The bushes are often hidden in tall grass, so be careful not to stumble upon snakes.
