Manas Village in Talas
Manas village has been the administrative center of the Talas district in the Talas region of Kyrgyzstan since 2007. It is the administrative center of the Omuraliev rural district. It is located in the northern part of the republic. In the past, the settlement was known as Ak-Sai, but the toponym was changed to its current name in 2006. Administratively, the village serves as the district center, where one of the buildings houses the administrative apparatus. The majority of the residents are indigenous people of the area. A small percentage consists of representatives of other nationalities – descendants of settlers who arrived during the Soviet era from neighboring republics to develop new lands. The population is 4,448 people.
The residents of Manas mainly engage in small entrepreneurship, specializing in wholesale and retail sales, and work in schools, kindergartens, libraries, and commercial establishments. Homeowners raise livestock and grow agricultural crops on their plots. Some of the population works at the livestock complex located in the region, where cattle and poultry are raised for meat production to supply local residents with necessary products.
Manas became the district center in 2007 when the republic's leadership signed an official document to transfer the administrative center to its territory from the village of Kokai, previously known as Ivan-Alexeyevka.
The decision was presented to the villagers by the Prime Minister during a meeting at the secondary school building. Issues related to the gold mines of Jeryuy and Andash were also discussed. At that time, most residents were against their further operation for a number of reasons.
For many villagers, preserving the traditions and customs of their ancestors is important. A vivid indicator of their aspirations is the participation of 11 teams in the national game Kok-Boru, among which were participants who won the First World Nomad Games. A wrestling tournament for the Nurlan Ryskulbekov Cup – a hero of the revolution who died from injuries sustained during the April events – was held brightly in the village. He was born and lived in the village for some time. A representative of the republic's administration and regional officials attended the sports event. Athletes from different weight categories participated in the tournament. The winners received well-deserved awards - medals and certificates.
