The Kyrgyz National Conservatory invites you to an opera celebration! For the first time in many years, the immortal work of the great composer Giacomo Puccini - the opera "Tosca". This is a concert performance - that is, a theatrical rendition by the orchestra and soloists.
Brief summary of the opera: The Church of Sant'Andrea in Rome
A former consul of the Roman Republic, now a political fugitive, Angelotti, has just escaped from prison and has made his way to the chapel of his sister, the Marchesa Attavanti. The artist Cavaradossi is working on a painting of Mary Magdalene. The sacristan is outraged that she resembles one of the parishioners. Cavaradossi denies the resemblance: his thoughts are only of Tosca, no other features can appear under his brush. After the sacristan leaves the chapel, Angelotti appears. He knows the artist and trusts him, so he asks for help. Hearing Tosca's voice, he hides again. The singer notices the resemblance of Magdalene to the Marchesa Attavanti. This resemblance ignites a fit of jealousy in Tosca, but the artist manages to calm her down. Tosca leaves, and Cavaradossi offers the fugitive to hide in his home. A cannon shot is heard, signaling that the escape has been discovered. The men hurry to leave.
A solemn service begins. Among the worshippers are the chief of police of Rome, Scarpia, and police agent Spoletta. They are interested in the Attavanti chapel, where they hope to find traces of the fugitive and discover a fan forgotten by the marchesa and an empty food basket. Seeing Floria Tosca return to the church, hoping to meet her beloved again, Scarpia decides to use her for his own purposes. He skillfully stirs Tosca's jealousy. When she rushes out of the church, Scarpia sends police agents after her, hoping that the enraged Tosca will lead them to the artist's secret hideout.
Palazzo Farnese
In his office, Scarpia awaits news from his agents. His expectations are only half fulfilled: Tosca indeed led them to Cavaradossi, who has been captured, but they have not found Angelotti. Scarpia hopes to extract the truth from the artist through torture, and orders Tosca to be brought to his office. The police chief begins to interrogate Cavaradossi himself, but his efforts are in vain. When Tosca appears, the artist manages to whisper to her that the secret must be kept at all costs. He is taken away for torture. The moans and cries of her beloved drive Floria to distraction, and she reveals the secret of the hiding place in the garden. By Scarpia's order, the torture is stopped. The exhausted Cavaradossi is thrown at Tosca's feet. He hears the police chief's order, which makes it clear that the secret is revealed. The artist curses Tosca. Scarpia orders him to be taken away and schedules an execution for the morning. In response to Tosca's pleas, he offers to save Cavaradossi's life: if the singer agrees to belong to him, then Cavaradossi will be shot with blank cartridges during the execution. In Tosca's presence, the police chief demonstratively gives the order and then writes a pass for her and Cavaradossi so they can leave Rome. And Tosca does not suspect that Scarpia does not intend to fulfill his promise to save Cavaradossi's life. However, when he tries to take Tosca by force, she inadvertently kills him in self-defense. Horrified at the sight of Scarpia's corpse, the singer carefully frees the precious pass from the dead man's hand and slips out of the palace.
The upper terrace of the Castel Sant'Angelo
Here, Cavaradossi awaits execution. Tosca rushes in and excitedly tells him that the execution will be fake. Mario just needs to pretend well so the soldiers suspect nothing, and then they can leave. Soldiers enter. A volley is fired - and the artist falls. Floria calls out to him in vain. Realizing that he is dead, Tosca throws herself off the parapet.
