The dance studio “Wake Up Dance Studio”, with the support of the Bishkek city administration, the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic, and the creative association “Sun People,” is holding the festival “Battle Skillzzz” among boarding institutions in the city of Bishkek and Chui region.

The event is held annually and brings together the best dancers of Kyrgyzstan, who compete in various categories of street dance. However, this year the festival will take place in an expanded format, with participants represented in different categories of creative and sports activities: street dance, extreme sports, graffiti, and MC beatboxing. For the first time, the majority of participants will be young people from boarding institutions (orphanages, boarding schools), who will have the opportunity to engage in workshops and competitions in the specified activities. The highlight of the festival will be a hip-hop masterclass for all participants, led by the invited dance group from the USA “Rennie Harris Puremovement,” as well as the participation of American artist Gabriel Specter, who will work alongside local graffiti artists.
The foundation of the entire festival will be competitive and demonstration shows by youth dance teams from 6 orphanages, who have been trained as part of the Jasa.kg program of the International Youth Foundation, with financial support from USAID.
The goal of the Battle Skillzzz 2014 project is to teach dance to children from orphanages, engage them in the dance movement of Kyrgyzstan, boost their self-confidence, and promote personal development for better integration into society.
The total number of participants performing at the festival: 160 people.
Event program:
The area of the square will be zoned by type of activity:
• Zone 1: graffiti/drawing – 10-12 people, including American graffiti artist Gabriel Specter
• Zone 2: skate park – a specially constructed area for people engaged in sports such as skateboarding, streetboarding, aggressive rollerblading, BMX biking, scootering, and mountain biking, to ride and improve tricks.
• Zone 3: dance area, where the entire dance show program will take place, including a masterclass by the U.S. dance group “Rennie Harris Puremovement” and the awarding of representatives from 6 orphanages – 110 people.
• Zone 4: sports area, where a powerlifting competition will take place – 20 people.
• Zone 5: MC area, where young rappers and beatboxers will audition – 20 people.
