In the beauty contest "Miss World 2017," held in the Chinese city of Sanya, a winner was chosen.
The winner is Manushi Chhillar, representing India.
The 20-year-old beauty queen is a student studying medicine. She hails from the northern state of Haryana, speaks Hindi and English, and practices classical Indian dance.
Second place in the contest went to Andrea Meza from Mexico, and third place went to British contestant Stephanie Hill.
"Miss Russia 2017," Polina Popova from Yekaterinburg, made it into the top ten finalists but did not reach the top five. Representatives from India, Kenya, Mexico, France, and the United Kingdom advanced to the 13th stage of the contest (there were a total of 15 stages).
Each contestant for the "Miss World" crown had to demonstrate her contribution to charity. Polina Popova traveled to Baikal and spoke out in defense of the Baikal seal, proposing to include it in the Red Book.
The "Miss World" contest has been held since 1951. Since 2015, the organizers have abandoned the swimsuit parade of participants, focusing instead on their personal qualities.
Russian women have won the contest twice. In 1992, the crown went to Yulia Kurochkina, and in 2008, to Ksenia Sukhinova. Last year, "Miss World" was recognized as Stephanie Del Valle from Puerto Rico.
