EAST TIMOR
In Malay, "timur" means "east". The island is located at the eastern tip of the Lesser Sunda Islands. Its western part is part of Indonesia, while the eastern part gained independence in 2002 after 27 years of Indonesian occupation.
United Kingdom - From the Celtic tribe of the Britons, who inhabited Britain from the 8th century BC. England got its name from the Germanic tribe of the Angles, who settled in Britain along with the Saxons in the 5th-6th centuries AD.
Vanuatu - from "forever on our land" in Bislama. The country was previously known as the New Hebrides, named after the islands in Scotland.
Vatican - The Mecca of all Catholics from Latin "vaticinari" meaning "to prophesy", from the name of the hill 'Mons Vaticanus', where the Vatican is located. The street at the foot of this hill was used by soothsayers and prophets in Roman times. Subsequently, the hill, at the foot of which this street passed, was named Mons Vaticanus.
Hungary - "people of ten spears". In other words, "alliance of ten tribes".
The word "Hungarians" is borrowed through the Polish "Węgrzy" (a general term for related language peoples - Mansi, Khanty, and Hungarians). The Hungarians themselves call themselves Magyars and their country "land of the Magyars". In European languages, the name Hungary comes from the Latin form Ungari, which, in turn, is borrowed from the Turkic term "Onogur", meaning "10 tribes". "Onogur" was a common name for the tribes that ruled the eastern parts of Hungary in the late 9th century AD.
Venezuela - "little Venice", from the diminutive form of "Venice". In 1499, Spanish explorer Alonso de Ojeda and his compatriot Amerigo Vespucci saw that the local inhabitants lived in buildings on stilts along the coast and rivers. European explorers were struck by the stilt houses built by the natives on Lake Maracaibo and decided to name the country after Venice. They called this land Venezuela - "Little Venice".
Vietnam - "southern land". "Land of the southern Viet". From the ethnonym "Viets", and "nam" in translation means "south".
The original layer of Vietnamese civilization was actually much further north than modern-day Vietnam.

Gabon - The name of this state in Central Africa comes from the Portuguese name of the local river Gabayo (Gabão), which means "cloak with a hood". This name originated from the specific shape of the river's mouth.
Haiti - in the language of the Taino Indians means "high mountain", Columbus named it "Hispaniola" ("little Spain"), but even before him, the region was called Haiti.
Guyana - possibly from the local "Guainazes" - "people worthy of respect".
Ghana - named after the ancient West African kingdom of the same name. However, the modern territory of Ghana was never part of it.
Germany - "land of spear-bearers" from the German "gar" ("spear") and Latin and German "man" - man. In Latin, "Germany" means: Allemagne - "land of all people", i.e. "of our many nations"; Deutschland - "land of people"; Nemtsy (Polish: Niemcy; Romanian: Nemti; Czech: Nemecko; Hungarian: Nemet(orszag)) - "land of the mute", where "mute" is a metaphor for "those who do not speak our language". The Hungarian name is borrowed from Slavic languages.
Honduras - from the Spanish "depths", refers to the deep waters off the northern coast.
Grenada - from the southern Spanish city (province) of the same name.
Greece - from Latin Grecus (Greeks), Aristotle suggested that this name referred to the indigenous peoples of Epirus (a mountainous coastal area surrounded by Macedonia and Thessaly); Hellas - "land of light" (a dubious assumption, since there are no words in Greek resembling "light" and "land" in the word Hellas).
GEORGIA. "Land where Georgians live". In a 14th-century book by a Russian traveler returning from Palestine, the people Gurzi are mentioned. After rearranging the sounds, "Gurzi" became "Georgians". The Georgian name for the country is Sakartvelo, and the self-name of the people is kartvels (the affixes "SA - O" surrounding the root indicate place).
