Reference IA:

The Globe Theatre is the third theater to bear this name. The first 'Globe' was built on the south bank of the Thames in 1599, funded by the troupe, of which William Shakespeare was a shareholder. The building was destroyed by fire 14 years after its establishment. The rebuilt theater was demolished by Puritans in 1644. By the end of the 20th century, a fund was established for the reconstruction of Shakespeare's 'Globe', and in 1997, the theater reopened its doors to the public.
