The plot is based on an ancient legend about the love between Prince Siegfried and the swan maiden Odette, who has been cursed by an evil sorcerer. This love story, set to music by the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, has become a globally recognized masterpiece of Russian classical choreography over its more than 100 years of stage existence. Traditionally, the leading roles in the ballet are performed by the best dancers of the troupe. This rule also applies to the Kyrgyz stage. Thus, in the first production of "Swan Lake" in 1949, the roles of Odette-Odile and Prince Siegfried were danced by the People's Artist of the USSR Bibisara Beishenalieva and the People's Artist of the Republic Uran Sarbagisheva. The scenography of the ballet was then created by the outstanding theatrical artist, People's Artist of the USSR Anatoly Arefyev. In 1965, a second edition of the ballet was presented, choreographed by Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov, and Mikhail Messerer, which has been familiar to audiences attending the ballet for the last fifty years.
In the third edition, with the set designer being the People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic Maken Sydykbajev and the costume designer Kubandyk Omurov, ballet fans will see many new elements: from sets and costumes to choreography and previously unperformed pages from the score. During the premiere days, a young generation of artists will take the stage: Madina Minzhilkieva, Aizhamal Abdrakhmanova (Odette-Odile), international competition laureate Marat Sydykov, and Talgat Beishkeyev (Prince Siegfried), Eles Arykov, Saadi Imankulov, Aibek Temiraliyev (Jester), Honored Artist of the Republic Dosmat Sadyrkulov, Alexander Bryukhanov (Evil Genius).
The premiere of the ballet will take place on January 31 and February 6, 2016.
