‘Fifty Shades of Chekhov’ brings together three short works by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov - ‘The Jubilee’, ‘The Bear’, and ‘The Proposal’. Each of them is set in a specific era, including our own days, reflecting the tragicomic aspects of human life that have not lost their relevance. And the audience should prepare for surprises.
- The action of the play, based on the famous jokes of A.P. Chekhov, takes place in different time periods (the 18th, 19th, and 21st centuries). It will be a bright, musical comedy directed by Valery Krainov. I hope that this production in the vaudeville genre, with dancing, original music, and live performances of songs will become a significant event in the cultural life of the capital! How many shades of character can Chekhov's heroes, who lived more than a hundred and fifty years ago, have? No less than fifty. Therefore, the title of the play, which will premiere in Bishkek, cannot be overlooked – ‘Fifty Shades of Chekhov’. Why Chekhov? There are several reasons, the main one being that classics are eternal. Even after one and a half hundred years, they remain relevant today. We realized this ourselves while preparing the play, and the audience who comes to the premiere will also see this, - Ketova told IA. - The characters in Anton Pavlovich's works are so different, vivid, funny, touching, and relatable to contemporaries, and the texts and passions described by the great Russian classic - they happen here and now. I think many viewers will recognize something happening on stage that also happens to them. The second reason that prompted us to turn to Chekhov's works is that they provide excellent material for actors. This is especially important for me, as for the first time, not only professional actors will take the stage but also students from the acting studio. So Chekhov's text will be a wonderful guide for both actors who have been in theater for several years and those who are just taking their first steps on the stage. And the third reason is purely subjective. I really love Chekhov's works, I feel them, and I experience them along with the characters!
The premiere of the play will take place on February 13 and 14 at 18:00.
