As part of the preparation for the tourist season at Lake Issyk-Kul, work is planned for April-May 2015 to clean the coastal zone and the bottom of Lake Issyk-Kul from household waste based on the principles of joint participation of the state and business.
This event is included in the Action Plan/commitments of the Director of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry (GAOOSELH) to achieve the goals/tasks of the Government Program of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2015 and the Action Plan of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2015 to strengthen the national economy.
It should be noted that in May 2014, at the initiative of GAOOSELH, with the involvement of the private enterprise "Agarcov," work was already carried out to clean the northern coastal zone and the bottom of Lake Issyk-Kul from household waste. For this event, a decision by the Board of the State Agency No. 7 dated 04.07.14 allocated 490,000 soms from the Republican Fund for Nature Protection and Development of the Forestry Sector.
The campaign was conducted in implementation of the Action Plan of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2014 for the implementation of the Program for the Transition of the Kyrgyz Republic to Sustainable Development for 2013-2017 (Government Resolution dated 28.02.14 No. 110) and the Action Plan/commitments of the Director of GAOOSELH to achieve the goals/tasks of the Government Program of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2014.
Work was carried out to clean the territory of the park-beach zone and the bottom of the lake, and the following amounts of household waste were removed: Komсомол – 5.5 cubic meters, Bosteri – 13.25 cubic meters, Cholpon-Ata – 8.75 cubic meters, Kara-Oy – 7.5 cubic meters, Bayet – 4.25 cubic meters, Sary-Oy – 6.25 cubic meters, Chok-Tal – 5.5 cubic meters, Kosh-Köl – 6 cubic meters.
In total, the length of the cleaning of the shoreline of Lake Issyk-Kul was 6,500 meters, and 57 cubic meters of household waste were removed.
Emphasizing the importance and relevance of the problem of pollution of the coastal zone and the bottom of Lake Issyk-Kul with household waste, especially plastic waste (bags, bottles, etc.), GAOOSELH calls on all interested organizations, as well as citizens of the Issyk-Kul region, to participate in the cleaning campaign for Lake Issyk-Kul.
