Bishkek is hit by abnormal heat

100-Year Record Broken

Abnormal heat has arrived in Kyrgyzstan. The air temperature in Bishkek has warmed up to plus 28 degrees. Meteorologists are expecting new temperature records and are warning residents about the danger of heat strokes.

Ice cream is currently the most popular product in Bishkek. The demand for this cold treat in the last month of autumn is higher than on some summer days.

“We thought it was already winter. But the weather has pleased us. And, of course, we are enjoying every sunny day,” says ice cream seller Aysuluu Bayysh kyzy.

The heat has been close to 30 degrees in Kyrgyzstan for several days now. The temperature record for October and November over the last 100 years has been broken, meteorologists say.

“On October 30, the absolute maximum recorded in 2003 was surpassed. The temperature was one degree higher, reaching 26.3 degrees. And yesterday it was exceeded by three degrees,” says Elena Zukhareva, a specialist in the weather forecasting department of the Hydrometeorology Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic.

However, not everyone is happy about the unplanned summer. Some were caught off guard by the abnormal warmth.

“I thought it was cool now, autumn. I thought it would be cold, but it’s very hot,” says tourist Sami Zaid from Libya.

“This affects our agricultural lands. Of course, we would like everything to be in its own time,” says local resident Irada Gabitova.

Meteorologists are quick to reassure those who love cool weather. By the end of the week, it will get colder in the republic. Rain is expected over the weekend.

The sharp change in weather may complicate livestock grazing in pastures, the operation of vehicles, and municipal services. This is warned by the meteorological services of Kyrgyzstan.
