Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan restored irrigation in the Kara-Suu district

At a recent meeting of the Council of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, a joyful announcement was made regarding the resolution of the irrigation issue in the village of Savay in the Kara-Suu district. Deputy Minister and Head of the Water Resources Department Almaz Zheenaliev reported that the complete restoration of the irrigation infrastructure is planned to be finished this year.

This initiative became possible thanks to fruitful negotiations between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. As part of the cooperation, the Uzbek side has already carried out significant work: 10 km of the collector has been cleaned, and the operation of 3 siphons has been restored, ensuring the resumption of water flow.

In addition, active measures are being taken by the state agency "Hydrogeology." Kyrgyzstan has a balance of 23.3 km of collector-drainage network, of which 11.6 km have already undergone mechanical cleaning. The treatment of the remaining 11.7 km is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026 according to the established timetable.

The ministry emphasizes that the successful implementation of this project will provide farmers with stable water supply, increase crop yields and the quality of agricultural products, as well as prevent land degradation. This project serves as a vivid example of effective cooperation between the two countries in the field of sustainable water resource management in the region.
