On the air of "Birinchi Radio," the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan, Saidikram Niyazkhodjaev, shared achievements in reducing water losses in the country.

In his opinion, significant efforts have been made over the past few years: more than 60 trillion sums from the budget and 622 million dollars in foreign investments have been directed towards the development of technologies aimed at water conservation.

If in 2020 the latest methods were used on only 4% of irrigated lands, by 2026 this figure is expected to rise to 60%. This will allow for an annual reduction in water consumption of approximately 2.5 billion cubic meters.

Currently, Uzbekistan is actively modernizing its water resource management system. Private companies have been given control over some water bodies, automation is being implemented at hydroposts, and digital monitoring is being introduced. A new program concerning water resource management and the development of the irrigation sector until 2028 has also been developed.

Plans to reduce water losses include the installation of channels with concrete coverings and the reduction of energy costs for pumping stations.
