The "Green" Corridor at the Border with Kyrgyzstan Will Be Eliminated

The 'Green' Corridor at the Border with Kyrgyzstan Will Be Eliminated
The 'Green' corridor at the border with Kyrgyzstan will be eliminated, as reported by the official representative of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhambyl Suraganov.
“There are seven border customs posts functioning at the border with the Kyrgyz Republic: six automotive and one railway. All automotive customs posts have 'green' and 'red' corridors. The dual corridor system at the border with Kyrgyzstan will be removed after Kyrgyzstan joins the Eurasian Economic Union,” Suraganov stated.
The representative of the State Revenue Committee explained that the dual corridor system is a simplified customs control system that allows individuals crossing the customs border to independently choose between the 'red' and 'green' corridors.
The 'Green' corridor is intended for the movement of individuals across the customs border whose luggage does not require customs declaration, meaning it is for personal use. The 'Red' corridor, on the other hand, is for individuals crossing the customs border with luggage containing goods that require customs declaration.
The official representative of the Committee emphasized that the dual corridor system operates at the checkpoints regardless of the season. When asked about the inconveniences for tourists in the case of a single corridor, he replied: “I wouldn’t say it’s a big problem; there will be a queue, and this will create certain inconveniences for tourists.”
However, Suraganov noted that currently, two authorities are conducting control at the border with Kyrgyzstan, and with the removal of customs control, the speed of crossing the border will significantly increase.
Recall that President Almazbek Atambayev signed a law on the ratification of international treaties regarding Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union on May 21, 2014. The law was approved by the country's parliament on May 20 and officially came into force on May 21.
