Members of the National Council of Kyrgyzstan urge the authorities to postpone the signing of the roadmap for joining the Customs Union.

"We, members of public supervisory councils and civil activists of Kyrgyzstan, call for a transparent and comprehensive analysis of the consequences of joining the Customs Union for all sectors of the country, including social sectors: education, healthcare, and social protection," the statement released today says.
Members of the Public Supervisory Council are concerned that the government, represented by the Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan, Temir Sariev, has not ensured a transparent public discussion on the impact of the Customs Union on economic sectors and the social sector.
Members of the Public Supervisory Council of Kyrgyzstan call on the authorities to postpone the signing of the roadmap for joining the Customs Union

"Temir Sariev stated that the signing of the roadmap for Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Customs Union will take place at the upcoming meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission, without broad public discussion, without extensive debate in parliament, and only with the approval of two committees of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan.
We, members of the Public Supervisory Council, urge the government and parliament of Kyrgyzstan to postpone the signing of the roadmap on May 29, 2014, in Astana (Kazakhstan). A detailed analysis and conclusion from the Public Supervisory Council of government bodies on the consequences of Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Customs Union is required.
Currently, public opinion is being manipulated through government-controlled associations that provide one-sided and not always reliable information about the Customs Union. The negative consequences of Kazakhstan's and Belarus's accession to the Customs Union for various segments of the population of these countries are not being studied or highlighted," the statement notes.
The statement is signed by 24 members of the Public Supervisory Council from leading ministries of the country.
