The Ministry of Energy clarified its position regarding the new tariff policy.

As representatives of the ministry indicated, for a long time, electricity tariffs in the country were below the actual costs of its production. This difference was covered by the state budget, which created financial difficulties for the energy sector.

“In recent years, significant changes have been occurring in the energy sector. This process became particularly noticeable after the revision of the tariff policy last year, which contributed to the acceleration of infrastructure renewal and improvement of the technical base. Under current conditions, electricity has become an important element of the country's economic security,” the Ministry of Energy noted.

The ministry emphasized the modernization of electrical networks. “In the regions, substations have been updated, old transformers replaced, and automated management systems implemented, which has reduced the number of emergency outages. This, in turn, has significantly increased the reliability of electricity supply in several areas. Additionally, modern meters are actively being installed and digital control mechanisms are being developed to reduce technical losses. Experts note that these measures contribute to more rational use of electricity and enhance the transparency of the entire system,” the statement added.

According to information from the National Electric Network of Kyrgyzstan OJSC, a significant amount was allocated last year for the renewal of production equipment and capital repairs. The reconstruction of some strategically important facilities has improved the reliability of electricity production and reduced the number of accidents.

These achievements became possible due to changes in the tariff policy.

The ministry also reminded that starting from May 1, 2025, the tariff for the population increased from 1.11 soms to 1.37 soms per kWh, which constituted an increase of 23.8%. This change did not create a significant burden on family budgets but provided additional resources for the modernization of the sector.

“Even a slight increase in revenues has allowed the energy sector to implement large-scale investment and technical projects,” the ministry concluded.
