In Osh, the overpass bridge has been completed
A ceremonial opening of the overpass bridge took place in the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan, which began construction two years ago. The grand construction of the overpass in the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan was completed just in time for the City Day, celebrated in Osh on October 29.

After the construction work was completed, the structure underwent strength and load-bearing tests under the personal supervision of the mayor, Aitmamata Kadyrbaev: he was under the structure while a column of trucks was driving over the bridge. On the eve of the holiday, on October 28, a ceremonial opening of the bridge was held with the participation of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Almazbek Atambayev.

- The opening of the overpass bridge in the city of Osh is an important event, - said the head of state in his congratulatory speech. - Relationships between people can be compared to bridges. For the unity of multi-ethnic Kyrgyzstan, every citizen should be a kind of "bridge" - uniting people around themselves, being tolerant and patient.

Atambayev also expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation for its assistance to the city of Osh and the Osh region, noting that funds from a Russian grant were attracted for the construction of the overpass.
The length of the new bridge is 265 meters, and its width is 24 meters. The roadway is divided into four lanes. Sidewalks 1.5 meters wide have been built for pedestrians.

- The citizens were eagerly awaiting the completion of the bridge – it was too long and problematic, - says Osh resident Lyudmila Kityaeva. – The overpass was built over the central market, the busiest area of the city. Everything around was dug up, and getting to the market required a detour. Public transport has not yet been allowed on the overpass, but cars are already driving and people are walking. The bridge is beautiful and spacious, with a wonderful view of Suleiman Mountain. However, the quality of the stairs leaves much to be desired: not even a week has passed, and the new marble steps are already broken.

In addition to the damaged stairs, many complaints from citizens were raised regarding the condition of the recently built sidewalks: after the very first rain, the paving stones sagged in places. In response to numerous complaints from citizens, the Osh city hall stated that the stairs and sidewalks adjacent to the bridge are not related to the overpass itself. Nevertheless, in the first days of November, the damaged areas were repaired.

It should be noted that the construction of the overpass bridge was initiated by the previous mayor of Osh, Melis Myrzakmatov, and began in October 2013. The former mayor himself referred to his project as the "construction of the century," however, the ambitious project lacked proper calculations and a feasibility study, and violations were found during the tendering process. In 2014, construction was suspended. After the change of mayor, a new project for the overpass was created, and construction resumed in the spring of 2015. A total of 669 million soms were allocated for the construction of the bridge from a Russian grant of 12.8 million dollars. According to the Osh municipality, the construction cost 564 million soms. With the saved funds, the city hall plans to build another bridge in the city.
