In 14 years, the number of people in Kyrgyzstan whose weight significantly exceeds the norm has increased by five percent
The number of citizens suffering from obesity in Kyrgyzstan has increased, reported the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Kyrgyzstan, citing data from the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to WHO, in 2000, 8.1 percent of Kyrgyz citizens over the age of 18 suffered from obesity. By 2014, this figure had risen to 13 percent. Moreover, over the past nine years, the growth dynamics have intensified.
The FAO suggested that this is related to insufficiently diverse nutrition in terms of the consumption of starchy foods, baked goods, as well as a lack of vegetables and fruits in the diet. The organization emphasized that to maintain a normal weight, it is necessary to consume products from at least five categories.
Proper nutrition is a habit that is best formed in childhood. Scientists even conducted a study to determine how to instill it in children.
