The memorial-historical complex named after Kurmanjan Datka has been transferred to the Ministry of Culture, — Deputy J. Zholdosheva

The memorial-historical complex named after Kurmanjan Datka, located near the city of Cholpon-Ata in the village of Ornok in the Issyk-Kul region on an area of 15.6 hectares, has been transferred to the balance of the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic, announced on June 6 before representatives of Kyrgyz culture, Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Zhyldyz Zholdosheva.

According to her, she came to this decision for a reason. "Since the day of independence of Kyrgyzstan, no legal or physical entity has transferred the land it received to the state balance. We are doing this so that people of culture can create their works here, hold meetings, promote culture, and develop Kyrgyzstan. I admit, we could not find investors, although everyone was impressed by this project, but no one invested," she said.

The deputy noted the main reason: investors did not come because this is a charitable foundation and there will be no profit; no bank gives loans to a charitable foundation.

"I thought for a long time and decided to transfer this place to the balance of the Ministry of Culture. I have worked on this project for 11 years; it is somewhat my brainchild. But I admit that I could not fully realize it," she said, adding that the resolution was signed on May 22, 2014.

The deputy emphasized that this is a desirable piece of land, and many people wish to appropriate or buy this place. "The struggle for this place is in full swing. Since 90% of the museum has already been built, all communications are in place: electricity, water, telephone connection, and much more," she stressed.

According to the plan for the complex, there should be a museum, a sports and wellness complex with a 50-meter swimming pool, a building for international conferences, an open-air concert hall with 2,000 seats, a yacht club, a residential complex for vacationers, and a place for an open-air museum.

For his part, the director of the puppet theater noted that they have been following this news. "All people of culture learned about the news of the foundation and thought for a long time about what would happen to this place; some went to Issyk-Kul, looked around, and were surprised. This is a huge step for you, and for us — a huge gift. Creative people have neither apartments nor boarding houses, and this venue will be a good place for holding festivals," he said.
