On Saturday, June 14, a mournful date was commemorated – six years ago, Chinghiz Aitmatov was buried with the highest state honors at the memorial complex "Ata-Beyit".
As reported to "VB" by the chief Aitmatov scholar of the republic, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences Abdylidzhan Akmataliev, the main event of the day was the presentations of two eight-volume collections of Aitmatov's works – in Russian and Kyrgyz languages.
A ceremony of laying flowers at Chinghiz Aitmatov's grave took place at the memorial complex "Ata-Beyit".
In the Green Hall of the "Oktyabr" cinema, a screening of the film "The Runner" by director Sergey Urusevsky, based on Aitmatov's novella "Farewell, Gulsary!" was held. There was also a ceremony to award the laureates of the Chinghiz Aitmatov Club, and the presentation of the book by Academician Akmataliev titled "The White Cloud of Chinghiz Aitmatov" about the works of the great writer.
