According to Arkadiy Gladilov, Kyrgyz citizens voted for stability, peace, and joining the Eurasian Economic Union in the parliamentary elections. These principles led to the victory of the SDPK and other ruling parties, as people voted for the course rather than specifically for one party or another.
“Now people are asking questions: why did Kyrgyzstan denounce the agreement with Russia on the construction of hydropower plants, why does the government talk about the possible construction of economic zones after the visit of a delegation from Turkey? Last summer, the KR distanced itself from the USA, making a bow towards Russia,” noted Gladilov.
According to the expert, it is not so important for Kyrgyzstan which vector it takes – towards Russia, Europe, or China. In foreign policy matters, clear principles are important, not the principle-less politics that the authorities of the Central Asian republic are pursuing.
“Why are we making sharp zigzags, behaving inconsistently with our weight and influence?” Gladilov asks. “Kyrgyzstan needs to conduct foreign policy more carefully. Now we are part of the EAEU. And our strategic and economic partners will not forgive our 'zigzags'.”
